Kathy’s studio is in the Cornelia Arts Building, an old ice house come artist building, on Chicago’s North side in the Ravenswood Industrial Corridor (visit www.artwalkravenswood.org for more info). The funky building holds work spaces for about 40 artists of all types, including several jewelers, fiber artists, a print maker, painters, raku clay artists, and various sculptors. Kathy is one of the few artists who works here full-time during the day, so the real community is when she walks through the door to her own studio.
In 2006 when Kathy undertook writing “Elegant Wire Jewelry,” she realized she could no longer go it alone to fill all of her jewelry commitments. With the addition of just one part-time assistant early on, Kathy realized that she was building a team all working towards a common goal… to make a successful living in the arts.
Now the studio has grown to include 4 assistants who all enjoy being working artists. We all strive to make it a group learning and mentoring environment; it’s very supportive for our own endeavors and for the growth of the studio. It’s fun to be a part of a growing and changing environment where we get to work with our hands creating something that makes people happy.
